Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has publicly criticized the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, following his comments suggesting that she “needs help.”
Pulse247 earlier reported that Rollas, in an Instagram statement on Thursday, claimed that many colleagues in the movie industry were aware of Regina Daniels’ alleged health challenges but continued to speak negatively about her in private. He referenced an incident on a movie set where senior actors such as Okey Bakassi, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, and others supposedly observed her behaviour and concluded she required help.
Rollas also recounted a past occasion during the birthday party of Regina Daniels’ son, where her husband, Ned Nwoko, reportedly drew his attention to her health concerns.
He further criticised Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, for pursuing her ambition to become AGN President despite what he described as pressing issues in her daughter’s home.
The AGN President additionally dismissed claims that Ned Nwoko had been financially supporting the Guild. He faulted the lawmaker for discussing Regina’s alleged health issues publicly.
However, Regina Daniels fired back in a lengthy Instagram post, accusing Rollas of harbouring resentment because she allegedly stopped him from bringing women to her home to take swimming lessons. She also dismissed his leadership record, insisting he had achieved nothing meaningful as AGN President.
Her statement read:
“AGN President, respectfully, there must be something wrong with you sir! To say I need help? You have no business spewing nonsense about my family or my mum who always sung your praises but I wouldn’t because as an established actor from childhood yo my prime, having witnessing your inauguration in my early years, I say you are a disgrace of a president who just who just visits one office to the other enriching his pocket in guise of catering to the wellbeing of actors. If not, tell me why you haven’t enforced anything on actors protecting and residual in 8 years.
“The only notable impact on the guild is the office you opened recently, after 7 years, and much criticism from people, who my family were major sponsors of. Well, I’m not shocked because that’s how you get paid, bringing down women in my family home several times to take swimming lessons, which I warned you of, hence your bitterness. Actually, that’s what you ‘ve always sone to the high-profile men you visit to lure them with women so your pocket can get bigger.
“What happened to the fatherly figure I admired solely because of the respect and devotion my mum had for you. I already know so I can say for a fact that you were paid chicken change to speak nonsense about a child that benefited under your administration instead gave you the bigger honour you have through my ex-husband and mother so you should be thankful to my mother for introducing you to him. I’m still in awe that you would try to discredit my mother’s election and diminish her efforts after all she has done for you.
“In support of my mother’s election, I feel like she has paid her dues in the industry and would be a perfect figurehead to represent actor. Take it or leave it for a movie industry with the beauty that come with the understanding of being on screen needs a beautiful chair lady with advanced male advisors to take us to any level in the society. I don’t like rubbish. (Sic)”
Regina’s response has generated widespread reactions online, deepening the ongoing tensions within the Actors Guild of Nigeria as the AGN leadership contest continues.
