“Rochas Okorocha sent Assassins after me” – Akagburuonye Alleges

Chief Barrister Success Obioma Akagburuonye, a leading Imo State gubernatorial aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections, has raised a serious alarm over an alleged assassination attempt on his life on Saturday, November 29, 2025, near the Imo Airport and in his Ogbor-Uvuru ancestral community in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area.

Akagburuonye, who is the National Coordinator of Hope Rising for Imolites, Olile Anya Di Maka Odinma Ndi Imo, made the revelation on Sunday, December 30, 2025, during a service at the Assemblies of God Church, Ogbor-Uvuru.

The service was attended by several dignitaries, including former Super Eagles captain Mr. Segun “Mathematical” Odegbami.

During his address, Chief Akagburuonye directly accused former Imo State Governor, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, of orchestrating the alleged plot on his life.

He further claimed that Okorocha had made previous attempts to forcibly seize his choice landed property in Abuja—an issue currently before the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

According to Akagburuonye, his security team intercepted the alleged assailants, an outcome he described as the intervention of divine mercy. He stated that six suspects were apprehended the same day and are now in the custody of the Imo State Police Command, where they are said to be offering useful confessional statements.

He added that the plot was designed to appear as a politically motivated killing, especially as he hosted the Aboh Mbaise chapter of the APC that same Saturday during the Owerri Senatorial Zone’s rotational political sensitization rally ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rally—anchored on the Imo Charter of Equity—advocates for the Owerri zone to produce the successor to Governor Hope Uzodimma. It is championed by the Owerri Zone Leaders of Thought, led by Chief Marcon Nlemigbo and Prince Charles Amadi (Charlvon).

Akagburuonye urged anyone close to Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha to exercise caution, insisting the former governor would not triumph over “an innocent man blessed with God’s grace and anointing.”

Worshippers were visibly shocked by the revelations, leading the clergy to rally the congregation for intense prayers of protection over Akagburuonye and his family. The congregation also invoked curses upon anyone allegedly plotting harm against the real-estate billionaire.

Meanwhile, social media reports have been circulating with the caption: “Assassination Attempt, Rochas Okorocha Implicated.”
According to these accounts, Akagburuonye publicly repeated his allegations before over a thousand worshippers at the church.

He was quoted as saying:
“Rochas Okorocha planned to assassinate me on my way to Owerri from the Imo Airport over land matters he lost in my favour. Anybody who knows Rochas Okorocha should tell him to leave me alone.”

Attempts to reach Senator Okorocha or members of his media team were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

As part of its investigation, ThePressman Newspaper questioned Chief Akagburuonye regarding his security concerns. He responded:
“Investigations are ongoing. The culprits are in protective custody.”

Sources confirm that law enforcement agencies are conducting extensive inquiries to ensure justice and public safety.

The situation has drawn significant attention from political stakeholders and the wider public, who continue to monitor developments closely.

As of press time, the Imo State Police Command has not released an official statement through the PPRO’s office regarding the alleged arrest of the six individuals said to be involved in the purported assassination attempt.
