Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed threats by three former governors—Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu—to institute legal action against him over his decision to run state affairs from his private residence in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The former governors had reportedly faulted Otti for not operating from the Government House in Umuahia, the state capital.
Speaking to journalists while responding to questions on the matter, Governor Otti said he was unperturbed by the threat, noting that his legal team is fully prepared to respond to any lawsuit that may be filed.
He maintained that he has committed no offence by working from home, explaining that the Umuahia Government House is currently undergoing reconstruction.
According to the governor, his decision to operate from his personal residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, rather than Umuahia, was necessitated by the deplorable condition of the Government House facility.
Addressing the lawsuit threat directly, Otti said:
“Somebody said he will sue me for not operating from his house in Umuahia. Well, I am waiting for the suit. My lawyers are prepared.
“I have looked at the constitution, and I didn’t see where there is a provision that I must operate from a particular place,” Otti said.
The governor emphasized that the people of Abia State are more concerned about governance and development than the physical location from which the governor performs his duties.
He also expressed surprise that one of the former governors chose to launch a verbal attack on his administration from distant Ebonyi State, an action he said prompted responses from Abia State Government media officials.
