“We no go gree, Akpabio pass the bill” – Protesters storm National Assembly

For the second straight day, protesters on Tuesday besieged the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, ramping up their demand for the real-time transmission of election results from polling units directly to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s IREV portal.

The demonstrators converged at the entrance of the complex, chanting, “We no go gree, we no go gree, Akpabio, pass the bill,” in a clear appeal to the Senate leadership.

Voices also rose with another refrain: “Our vote must count.”

Many of the protesters carried placards with bold inscriptions such as “Don’t alter the bill, pass it,” and “Rigging election is a coup,” among other messages reflecting their insistence on electoral transparency.

The chants were aimed at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as the protesters urged the leadership of the National Assembly to treat the proposed legislation as a priority and ensure its passage without amendments they fear could weaken its intent.
